Jordan is a special place for us and we look forward to sharing it with you. Meet the Glyph team and our longtime friend and driver Malek in Amman. Our photographic journey will continue to ancient Roman ruins, history, culture, beautiful people and amazing food! We will have opportunities to photograph the ancient city of Petra, camels and their cameleers riding across the majestic landscape of Wadi Rum and the desert landscape of the Dead Sea.
Curtis and Doug will guide and assist this small group of four to eight guests in the field. In the evenings, we will work on your images using Lightroom and Photoshop processing techniques, critique them and advise you every step of the way. We look forward to seeing you in Jordan!

Itinerary
January 4, 2025: Your Amman arrival. Greet and assist by GLYPH team and transfer to Hotel Toledo. 6:30 pm welcome dinner/orientation at Amman’s Tawaheen Al Howa, overnight in Hotel Toledo, Amman. (Many US flights arrive midday. If you need to get over jet lag, you might elect to arrive a day earlier. In this case you will be responsible for your transfer and additional night’s hotel.)
January 5, 2025: After breakfast in hotel we’ll visit Ajloun (12th-century crusades-era fortress) and the Roman city of Jerash (notable sites within Jerash include Hadrian’s Arch, Temple of Artemis, and the Forum). Dinner in local restaurant then daily photo review back at Hotel Toledo. Overnight in Hotel Toledo, Amman.
January 6, 2025: After breakfast in hotel we’ll visit the Eastern desert fortresses of Kharanah and Al Azraq (incredible Lawrence of Arabia history here), followed by dinner in a Bedouin tent and night photography at Qasr Al Amra, 1,000-year old meeting place for desert dignitaries. Overnight in Hotel Toledo, Amman.
January 7, 2025: Street breakfast and photography/walking tour of downtown Amman, then drive to Petra via the Dead Sea (with stops along the shoreline for photography). Afternoon check-in to Petra Guest House; dinner with local Bedouin family; daily photo review and overnight in Petra Guest House.
January 8, 2025: Early breakfast in hotel then full-day visit to Petra. This 2,300-year old city, carved from the surrounding rock by the ancient Nabataean kingdom, is stunning in its grandeur and incredible shots await around every corner; return to hotel for early dinner and photo review in Cave Bar at Petra Guest House, then return to site for visually impressive Petra By Night program. Overnight in Petra Guest House.
January 9, 2025: After breakfast in hotel, half-day visit to Petra focusing on the treasury, then transfer to Wadi Rum luxury camp. Dinner and photo review in camp; overnight in Wadi Rum luxury camp with lunch in route. (Night photography here.) Wadi Rum is a vast natural area with an incomparable landscape. You’ve seen these locations in films such as Lawrence of Arabia, The Martian, and Dune. Here we’ll be shooting landscapes, Bedouin portraits, and more.
January 10, 2025: After breakfast, morning visit by 4x4 to Wadi Rum (lunch will be back at the camp); afternoon return to visit other areas of Wadi Rum and photograph bedouin with camels. (Optional camel ride). Return for dinner and daily photo review in camp and capture more night photography; overnight in Wadi Rum luxury camp.
January 11, 2025: After breakfast, checkout, spend one more morning in Wadi Rum by 4x4; late afternoon return to Amman. Dinner and daily photo review in Hotel Toledo. Overnight in Hotel Toledo.
January 12, 2025: After breakfast, street photography. Lunch on the street; dinner and final photo review at Hotel Toledo. Overnight in Hotel Toledo.
January 13, 2025: Breakfast in hotel, then departures for the US.
Pre-Workshop: We recommend arriving in Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA). Glyph team will pick you up and bring you to your hotel. If you prefer to arrive a day or two early to adjust to jet lag you are more than welcome to do so; you will be responsible for lodging during that time. We are more than happy to help you with any travel suggestions! Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Fitness
Moderate: You are able to handle long days with lots of walking. In Petra, there are many stairs and rocky trails to climb and descend.
